Alvin C. Kubera, 94, Marshfield, passed away after a long struggle with cancer, on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the House of the Dove, with family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, in Thorp. Rev. Charles Hiebl will officiate and burial will follow in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery.  Military rites will be conducted by the Thorp American Legion Post #118. Visitation will be held at the church, on Monday, from 9:30amuntil time of service.

Alvin Clyde Kubera was born on December 5, 1922, in Thorp, WI, the son of the late Andrew and Myrtle (Swim) Kubera. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Gardner on April 3, 1948 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. He had several jobs, including, theater projector operator, painter, school janitor, and house parent at Sunburst in Neillsville. In retirement he worked at McDonald’s and had a paper route for the Marshfield News Herald.

He loved tinkering, fixing, and remodeling things. He also enjoyed traveling, road trips with John Lee, growing tomatoes and geraniums, whistling and teasing for a smile.

Alvin was a member of the Knights of Columbus Queen of Peace Council #4634 of Thorp, the Thorp American Legion Post #118, and was a proud Army veteran with the 44th.infantry, having served in the European Theater from 1943-1945.

He is survived by his children:  Jack (June) Korn of Birchwood,  Sheila Presley of Deltona, FL, Kathleen (Marvin) Lattimer of Marshfield,  Merry (Barry) Berdal of Frederick,  Roger (Judy) Kubera of Menomonie,  Alan Kubera of La Crosse;  one foster son: John Lee of Marshfield; 20 grandchildren;  16 great grandchildren;  6 great-great grandchildren;  one brother;  nine sisters; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Alvin was preceeded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Marjorie, on January 11, 2006; four brothers; three sisters; and two foster children.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Richard J. Mercier, and the Oncology team at the Marshfield Clinic, and to the caring staff at House of the Dove.
