WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Marshfield sophomores Emma Haugen and Brooke McGrath competed at the 2017 WIAA State Gymnastics Meet at Lincoln High School on Saturday.

Haugen, who qualified in the all-around, finished 24th with a combined score of 32.383 in the four events.

Haugen finished 27th in the balance beam with a score of 7.8 and 21st in the vault with an 8.4. She also had scores of 8.35 in the floor exercise and 7.833 in the uneven bars. She was 22nd in the vault at last year’s state meet.

McGrath, making her first state appearance, finished just behind Haugen in the vault, taking 24th with a score of 8.183.

“The girls did really well, and we are very proud of their accomplishments competing at the state meet,” Marshfield coach Allie Dryer said. “Emma did an excellent bars and floor routine, with her floor routine being the best routine of the season so far. The scores awarded at this meet were significantly lower than we have seen throughout the season, but comparing Emma’s performance on floor today to the rest of the season, she was stronger today than she has been all season on floor.

“Overall, it was an excellent opportunity for Marshfield to get competitive experience with the best gymnastics programs in the state and motivates the team to continue to improve in preparation for next year’s season.”

Samantha Weyker of Kenosha Bradford/Indian Trail/Tremper won the all-around title with a score of 37.967, edging teammate Molly O’Boyle by just more than one point. Weyker also won the vault with a 9.8, tying Franklin/Muskego/Oak Creek/Whitnall’s Abigail Missiaen.
