Free throws help Stratford boys basketball past Newman Catholic

Breit leads Tigers with 18 points, nine rebounds

WAUSAU — Vaughn Breit made 10 of 11 free throws on his way to a team-high 18 points as the Stratford boys basketball team whipped Wausau Newman Catholic 70-54 on Thursday night at Newman Catholic High School.

Breit added nine rebounds for the Tigers, who are now 12-7 overall and 5-5 in the Marawood Conference South Division. Newman Catholic drops to 5-14 and 2-8 in the conference.

Okley Wrensch added 12 points, and Cole Hoffman had 10 for Stratford.

The Tigers were 25 of 30 at the free throw line and made nine of 15 from 3-point range. Wrensch hit 4 of 6 from distance in the victory.

Stratford plays at Auburndale on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
