AMHERST — For the second year in a row, the Stratford wrestling team is heading to state.

Stratford downed Coleman 45-22 and crushed Weyauwega-Fremont 80-0 to capture a Division 3 team wrestling sectional Tuesday night at Amherst High School.

The Tigers will face Random Lake in a Division 3 semifinal at 10 a.m. on March 4 at the 2017 WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament at the University of Wisconsin Fieldhouse in Madison. Spring Valley/Elmwood will face Fennimore in the other Division 3 semifinal. The two winners will face off in the championship dual match at 3 p.m.

Fennimore beat Stratford in last year’s D-3 state title match on a tiebreaker after they battled to a tie.

Stratford showed its dominance right from the start, earning pins in the first four matches of the semifinal against Coleman.

Derek Marten (126 pounds), Jake Drexler (132), Dilan Dehlinger (138), and Jordan Becker (145) all won by pin; Jeremy Schoenherr followed with a major decision at 152; and Mason Kauffman had a pin at 160 to give the Tigers a commanding 34-0 lead.

After a narrow loss at 170, Stratford won the next three matches. A technical fall victory by Kamren Bornbach at 220 clinched the win.

Weyauwega-Fremont reached the finals with a 54-20 victory over Crandon in another semifinal.

Stratford won the eight matches against Weyauwega-Fremont, six by pin, and Weyauwega-Fremont forfeited the next five matches before Max Schwabe finished off the shutout with a pin at 126 pounds.

Drexler (132), Dehlinger (138), Schoenherr (145), David Marquardt (160), Trevor Dennee (170), and Noah Knetter (182) also won by pin for the Tigers.
