WISCONSIN RAPIDS — A UW-Extension Cattle Feeders Workshop will be held in Marshfield on Feb. 22 at the United Farm Credit Service meeting room. This workshop is free, but registration is required by Feb. 17 to make refreshment arrangements. Participants not preregistered will incur a $5 fee to cover materials.
Representatives from Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association and Hewitt’s Meat Processing will lead a discussion on traits that buyers look for that indicate the likelihood of a high quality carcass and which traits detract from an animal’s value when determining how much to bid for fed cattle.
Building on the discussion of positive and negative traits in fed cattle, Dan Schaefer of the UW-Madison Animal Science Department will lead a discussion on nutrition from weaning through finish to produce animals with favorable traits to the buyers.
Brenda Boetel, UW-Extension livestock economist, will present a market outlook and factors influencing price discovery.
Online registration for the Marshfield Cattle Feeder Workshop is available at goo.gl/2m8KR2. Registration can also be done via phone by calling 608-297-3141 and referencing the Marshfield Cattle Feeder Workshop.
