MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team gave Neillsville all it could handle but came up short of the upset bid, losing 43-36 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Monday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The Dons trailed 20-10 at halftime and outscored Neillsville by three in second half, but could not make it all the way back.

Neillsville improves to 19-1 overall and 14-1 in the Cloverbelt East with one game remaining against Greenwood on Tuesday. Columbus Catholic finishes its Cloverbelt East season at 8-8 and is 12-9 overall heading into a Cloverbelt Crossover game at home Thursday against Fall Creek.

Morgan Albrecht had a game-high 16 points, and Kendra Baierl had nine points and 11 rebounds for Columbus.

Kayla Lis topped Neillsville with 13 points.
