WITTENBERG — The Stratford girls basketball team had eighth-ranked Wittenberg-Birnamwood on the ropes but dropped a 36-35 decision to the Chargers in a nonconference game Monday night.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood (17-1), ranked eighth in the most recent WisSports.net Division 4 state coaches poll, ran out to a 22-10 lead by halftime before the Tigers (13-6) mounted a comeback but in the end fell a point short of the upset.

Stratford shot only 33 percent (13 of 39) in the loss.

Kaylee Hollatz had 12 points, and Blaire Linder added 11 for the Tigers.

Stratford hosts Northland Lutheran on Thursday.
