MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield wrestling team finished its regular-season dual meet schedule with a resounding 59-10 win over Eau Claire North in a nonconference match Thursday at Marshfield High School.

Marshfield won 11 of the 14 matches, eight by pin, in the dominating victory.

Tanner Kanable (120 pounds), Brayden Richardson (126), Nolan Hertel (145), Payton Young (152), Bentley Ostermann (160), Sam Mitchell (170), Alex Brost (182), and Conner Peterson (195) each won by pin for Marshfield. All but Hertel’s and Brost’s pins came in the first period.

Sam Bauman (220) and Anthony Kanable (138) each won by decision as well for the Tigers, and Caden Pearce (132) won by technical fall. Bauman beat Antonio Putnick 7-2, two weeks after losing to him at the Sparta Tournament.

Marshfield will compete at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday at Stevens Point Area Senior High. With a first- or second-place finish, the Tigers would win their first WVC championship since 1958.

“I am happy we were able to add it to our schedule,” Marshfield coach Jackson Hein said. “It was one last opportunity for our three seniors (Anthony Kanable, Peterson, and Bauman) to wrestle in front of their home crowd.

“It was a huge win for (Bauman). He works incredibly hard, and for him to beat a guy tonight who he lost to only two weeks ago shows himself and his teammates that anything is possible. We look to carry this momentum into the conference tournament.”
