Assumption sends Stratford girls basketball to another overtime loss

STRATFORD — The Stratford girls basketball team suffered its second-straight overtime loss in the Marawood Conference South Division, falling to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 49-48 on Thursday night at Stratford High School.

Erin Sullifan and Elle Leberg each scored six points in the second half to help Assumption erase a three-point halftime deficit and tie the game at 42-42 at the end of regulation.

Gracie Wendels hit a 3-pointer and a free throw in overtime to help the Royals to the one-point win.

Stratford drops to 12-4 overall and 5-3 in the Marawood South. The three conference losses by the Tigers are by a combined four points. Assumption is now 7-9 and 5-4 in the conference.

Andie Zuelke scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Sammy Griesbach added 11 points, and Chelsey Gliniecki had 10 points and seven rebounds for Stratford.

Stratford plays at Pittsville on Tuesday.
