Marshfield boys hockey beats East/Merrill for first WVC win of season

Krueger scores four goals for Tigers

MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield boys hockey team grabbed its first Wisconsin Valley Conference victory of the season with a 5-2 win over Wausau East/Merrill on Thursday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Arena.

The Tigers are now 6-10-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the WVC. East/Merrill falls to 5-8-1 and 1-7 in the conference.

Ryan Krueger scored four times, and Isaac Wellens had a goal and two assists for Marshfield.

Krueger scored 23 seconds into the game to give the Tigers an early lead.

After Jake Bailey tied it for East/Merrill, Krueger added another goal, and then Wellens scored to make it 3-1.

Krueger added two goals in the third period to finish off the victory.

Haydon Roy-Peterson had 37 saves for Marshfield.

The Tigers host Chequamegon/Phillips in a nonconference game on Tuesday.
