MARSHFIELD — Zach Schmidt scored twice, and Evan Weister added another goal to lift the Marshfield boys hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Sparta in a nonconference game Thursday at the Marshfield Youth Ice Arena.

After Sparta scored six minutes into the game, Schmidt tied it 2:08 later.

Schmidt added another goal late in the second period, and Weister scored with five minutes remaining in the game on a power play for the Tigers.

Isaac Wellens had a pair of assists for Marshfield, which is now 4-7-1 after winning its second game in a row.

Haydon Roy-Peterson had 14 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield hosts Wausau West in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Saturday at 7 p.m. The game is a make-up from a game postponed on Tuesday.
