Unity man dies from injuries sustained in traffic accident
A press release from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office
NEILLSVILLE — One person is dead due to the injuries he sustained when he tried to jump in his truck and stop it from rolling backwards at the village of Unity’s dump site.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding someone that had been run over at the village of Unity’s dump site at about 3:39 p.m. on Nov. 15. Initial investigation indicated Alfred E. Weideman, 71 years old, was taking some yard waste to the dump site. He parked and exited his truck, leaving the door open and the engine running, and the truck started to roll backwards.
When Weideman tried to jump back inside the vehicle to stop it, he fell on the ground and was run over by the truck as it continued backwards. The truck ran over his chest and neck area and continued to roll until it hit a pile of gravel and stopped.
Weideman was transported to the Marshfield hospital by the Spirit Air Helicopter. Alcohol does not appear to be factor in the accident. It was reported that Weideman was having transmission problem with the truck prior to the accident.
Weideman died on the evening of Dec. 2.
Colby Fire and EMS responded to the scene with the Spirit Air Helicopter, the Abbotsford-Colby Police Department, and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
