HORTONVILLE — Senior Ema Fehrenbach and junior Meg Bryan combined for 49 points, but the Marshfield girls basketball team came up short, losing its 2016-2017 season opener at Hortonville 74-68 on Thursday night.

Fehrenbach had 27 points and nine rebounds, and Bryan finished with five 3-pointers and 22 points for the Tigers.

Marshfield shot 52 percent from field (24 of 46) but was hurt by poor free-throw shooting, making just 14 of 27.

Maddie Nikolai added eight points, and Jenna Jakobi had six points and seven assists for Marshfield.

Marshfield is off until Nov. 29 when it hosts Mosinee in its home opener.
