WHO event organizers seek charity nominations

MARSHFIELD — Over the past 20 years, Marshfield area women have been coming together to raise money for local needs through the Women Helping Out (WHO) golf outing.
“Jane Wagner’s niece had seen a flyer regarding a charity golf event while working in La Crosse. Jane and several ladies that she knew went down there and played in the outing in La Crosse,” said co-organizer Sally Wisinski. “She played there a couple of years, and then they said, ‘You know, this is such a great idea. Why don’t we do something like this in Marshfield?’
“So there was a committee of nine women, primarily people in education. They were the first committee that started doing this golf outing. The first one they had was held at RiverEdge in 1998.
“Their whole mission was gathering compassionate women together who wanted to help others in the community.”
Over the years, the group has raised funds for charities such as Soup or Socks, Mary’s Boarding House, Shirley’s House of Hope, Marshfield Home Delivered Meals, Companion Day Services, and many others.
The golf outing is a women-oriented event that has been held at both RiverEdge and Marshfield Country Club and features golf, food, games, raffles, and prizes.
All proceeds from the event go to a charity designated by the group each year.
“This year we were able to donate $7,600 to Opportunity Development Centers (ODC),” said Wisinski.
Wisinski and co-organizer Sue Hasenfang are currently looking for nominations for next year’s event, which is tentatively planned for July 2017.
“When we had the golf outing this year, we had a feedback form, and on the form we had asked people which organization would be a good recipient for this year,” added Wisinski. “We got a couple of suggestions.”
Wisinski and Hasenfang are asking the community to make nominations for charitable organizations and programs to become this year’s recipient. Nominations may be sent to whogo[email protected] or by calling Sally Wisinski at 715-676-2715.
