William A. “Bill” “Sonny” Martens, Sr

William A. “Bill” “Sonny” Martens, Sr., 93, Marshfield, went to be with the love of his life on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016 at his home.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Eric Berns officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the church by the American Legion Post 54 following the service. Private interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Loyal, at a later date. Granddaughters will serve as pallbearers. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Rembs Funeral Home and on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at Our Lady of Peace Church.

William was born on May 17, 1923 in Chili, where he was raised, the son of William and Sophie (Croell) Martens. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on Dec. 7, 1951.
He was united in marriage to Charlotte G. Dault on May 1, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hubbard Woods, IL. She died on May 16, 2013.

William had a variety of truck driving careers, the last being for his brother Bert who also preceded him in death. He was a life time member of the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield.

Bill is survived by his children, Bill (Bobbi) Martens, Jr., Becky (Joe) Chenier, Bradley Martens, Mark (Deb) Martens, Thomas Martens, Michael (Dawn) Martens, Robbin (Henry) Immerfall and Gwendolyn (Michael) Klevgard. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister, Mabel and a brother Tim.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Charlie Shefchik, his wife, a son Michael in infancy, and 8 siblings, Bert, Della, Dick, Dorothy, Helen, Jean, Judy and Ted.
