Marshfield School District tax rate decreases

For Hub City Times
MARSHFIELD — The final numbers for the 2016-2017 Marshfield School District budget have been tabulated, and it appears the district’s tax rate will be 41 cents lower than the year prior.
The district tax rate for 2015-2016 was $9.55, and the new rate is anticipated to be $9.14. This means the owner of a $100,000 home will pay $914 for the school district portion of his or her tax bill, compared to $955 the previous year.
For the following year, although several other numbers are factored into determining the tax rate, the district expects the tax rate to increase by 25 cents if the proposed school levy override referendum is successful. This year’s decrease in tax rate will more than offset next year’s estimated increase from a passed referendum.
