Evelyn. C. Hauke, 95, Marshfield, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Stoney River Memory Care, Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Eric Berns officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rembs Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at Our Lady of Peace Church.
Evelyn was born on March 22, 1921, in the Town of Marshfield, Wood County, to Michael and Catherine (Peil) Schiferl. She attended St. Joseph’s Parochial School in Hewitt and was a 1939 graduate of McKinley High School, Marshfield. She was united in marriage to Walter E. Hauke on Jan. 5, 1946, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hewitt. He died on Dec. 17, 1997 after 52 years of marriage.
Prior to her marriage, Evelyn was employed as secretary for Blum Brothers Box Company and at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance. After her marriage, she was employed as bookkeeper at Wisconsin Butter Tub Company until the Haukes founded Hauke Transit Line providing local and long distance moving and freight services in Marshfield. She was the bookkeeper for their business which they successfully operated until they sold it in 1973. After the sale of their business she was employed as financial secretary at Columbus High School for 6 ½ years until her retirement. She then helped part time in the office at Our Lady of Peace Church until June 1977.
She was a charter member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and the Parish Council of Catholic Women.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Thomas (Eiko) Hauke of Leander, TX, her daughter, Linda (Glenn) Marceil of Winston-Salem, NC and by Lily Hauke. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Shelly (Neal) Ganslaw, Joshua (Michelle Denton) Hauke, Sarah (Fahad) Shagloof, Gretchen (Lewis) Robson, Quinn (Arianne Tanton) Marceil and Nathan Marceil and 3 great grandchildren, Walter Hauke, Lincoln Ganslaw and Sullivan Ganslaw.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers at birth, a sister, Lucille Straub and 3 brothers, Leonard, Felix and Bernard Schiferl.
Memorials may be designated in Evelyn’s name to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
