STEVENS POINT — Marshfield junior Jordan Dzikowich missed out on a trip to the state meet by just 13 seconds as he placed 15th at the WIAA Division 1 cross country sectional on Saturday at Standing Rock Park.

The top two teams and top five individuals not on those teams at the sectional qualified for next Saturday’s 2016 WIAA State Cross Country Meet, which will be held at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

The Marshfield girls cross country team competed at the WIAA Division 1 sectional Saturday at Standing Rock Park in Stevens Point.

Dzikowich was sixth among those not on sectional champion Stevens Point and runner-up Appleton North, finishing in 17:19. Michael Jarvis of Hortonville grabbed the final individual qualifying spot, taking 12th in 17:06.

Jared Oemig was 26th in 17:43, and Addison Hill took 30th in 17:50 for Marshfield, which was fifth in the team standings.

Stevens Point and Hortonville earned the team spots in the state meet for the girls. Marshfield was 10th.

Sophia Schrodi took 39th in 21:25, and Lilly O’Brien was 46th in 21:45 for the Tigers.

“Jordan Dzikowich gave just a super effort today and nearly qualified as an individual at state, missing it by just one place,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “Our ninth graders really stepped it up on the boys’ side with Addison Hill, Joseph McKee, and Evan Ellis in our top five. Sophia Schrodi and Lilly O’Brien had great finishes to their seasons today on the girls’ side.”
