Dons host sectional semifinal Thursday

By Paul Lecker

Sports Reporter

MARSHFIELD — Tyler Fuerlinger scored twice in the first half, and it proved to be enough for Marshfield Columbus Catholic, which went on to beat La Crosse Aquinas 5-0 in a WIAA Division 4 boys soccer regional final Saturday afternoon at Griese Park.

Fuerlinger scored in the fifth and 26th minutes for the Dons, who improve to 20-2 this season. Columbus will play Arcadia in a sectional semifinal Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Griese Park.

The winner moves on to a sectional final against either Barron or Phillips on Oct. 29 at Cumberland.

Charles Payant scored 6:48 into the second half and assisted on goals by Calvin Brown and Zoe Stratman later in the half to provide the final score. Payant also assisted on both of Fuerlinger’s goals.

Bailey Keffer had three saves in goal for the Dons, who posted their 14th shutout of the season.
