MARSHFIELD — UW-Marshfield/Wood County mathematics professor Kavita Bhatia is the recipient of the 2016 Award for Excellence from the University of Wisconsin Colleges and University of Wisconsin-Extension. Bhatia is in her 21st year of teaching at UW-Marshfield/Wood County.

UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor Cathy Sandeen presented the award at the institutions’ Chancellor’s Awards Event and Reception Sept. 22 in Madison. The annual Chancellor’s Awards recognize UW Colleges and UW-Extension partners, supporters, and employees for their contributions to the quality of life in Wisconsin.

In giving the award, Sandeen praised Bhatia and five of her UW Colleges mathematics department colleagues for “most publicly and passionately reflecting the efforts of all in the department to ensure student success.”

As for Bhatia, Sandeen noted, “Kavita co-developed a course that enables non-STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) students placed into developmental mathematics to complete their mathematics requirements for the associate’s degree in one semester.”

Sandeen added, “UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees and partners work statewide to provide innovative education and services to students, business owners, farmers, and citizens in every industry across Wisconsin. The Chancellor’s Awards recognize those individuals who’ve gone above and beyond in extending our mission to the corners of the state.”
