SPENCER — The Spencer School District has participated in the Kindness in Chalk event for the past three years.

“The person who started this event has ties to Spencer,” said Jill Schulz, Spencer Elementary principal. “This is how we became involved the very first year it was run.

“The first year, just our elementary students took part. Last year our middle and high school students and teachers joined in. Our high school students pair up with our early elementary students to help them find success writing their positive messages and drawing uplifting pictures.

“The purpose is to fill our sidewalks with positive messages and drawings. If a person is having a rough day, the hope is that they will see the positive message and it will make them feel better.”
