WAUSAU — The Marshfield boys soccer team finished its regular-season schedule with a 3-1 win over Wausau East on Thursday.

Collin Nikolai and Roman Tibbett scored less than two minutes apart near the end of the first half to put Marshfield on top 2-0.

Nikolai added another goal in the 73rd minute to make it 3-0 before East scored with 58 seconds to go to ruin the shutout. Luke McCann assisted on both of Nikolai’s goals.

Marshfield finishes the regular season with a 10-7-3 record overall and a 6-5-1 mark in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, which is good enough for third place. East drops to 3-9-4 and 1-8-3 in the conference.

Tigers’ goalkeepers Matt Pahl and Jared Klein combined to save two shots on goal by East.

Marshfield held a 22-7 advantage in total shots.

The Tigers will open WIAA postseason play with a Division 2 regional semifinal on Oct. 20. Playoff brackets will be announced Sunday.
