Auburndale girls take second at 2016 Marawood Conference Cross Country Meet

Stratford boys, girls both finish fifth

RIB LAKE — Isabella Jewell finished sixth in 20:39.1, and teammate Kali Karl took ninth in 20:54.5 to lead the Auburndale girls to a second-place finish at the 2016 Marawood Conference Cross Country Meet on Thursday at Rib Lake High School.

Auburndale finished with 64 points, just six points behind Chequamegon for the girls team title. Stratford was fifth with 111 points.

Macie Schillinger was 12th for the Stratford girls, running in 21:00.8.

Chequamegon also won the boys team title. Wisconsin Rapids Assumption took second, Stratford fifth, and Auburndale ninth.

Cade Lehman took fifth for the Stratford boys in 17:04.8, and Lucas Heidmann finished 16th in 17:43.2.

Paul Kollross was Auburndale’s top finisher, taking 47th in 19:32.7.

Wisconsin Rapids Assumption’s Connor Dolan won the boys race in 16:15.9, 3½ seconds ahead of Athens’ Josh Langteau.

Edgar freshman Marissa Ellenbecker ran away from the pack to win the girls race in 18:51.2, 1 minute and 8 seconds in front of second-place Anna Buchberger of Marathon.

Stratford and Auburndale will compete in the WIAA Division 3 sectional on Oct. 21 at Nine-Mile Recreation Area in Rib Mountain. The boys race is set for 4 p.m. with the girls to follow at 4:45 p.m. The top two teams and top five individual finishers not on those teams will qualify for the 2016 WIAA State Cross Country Championships at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Oct. 29.
