McCann scores Tigers’ only goal

MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield boys soccer team came up short against Wisconsin Valley Conference co-leader D.C. Everest Tuesday, falling 3-1 in the Tigers’ final regular-season home game and Senior Night at Griese Park.

D.C. Everest (17-1-2, 9-0-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference) led 2-0 at halftime before Luke McCann cut the deficit in half for Marshfield (9-7-3, 5-5-1 WVC) with a goal in the 64th minute.

That was all the Tigers could muster, however, as they could not take advantage of a number of scoring opportunities, Marshfield coach Steve McCann said.

“It was a disappointing loss,” McCann said. “We had the wind and put a lot of pressure on them in the second half and couldn’t finish our opportunities. I’m proud of the kids, they played hard.

“I really like how, overall, Alec Hinson and Isaac Wellens shut them down in central defense and Kaylob Croston on the wing. We really did play great at times.”

Matt Pahl had six saves in goal for Marshfield.

The Tigers will finish their regular-season and conference schedule Thursday at Wausau East.
