Marathon running game too much for Auburndale football

Raiders pile up more than 400 yards on the ground

AUBURNDALE — The Auburndale football team dropped its homecoming game to Marathon 46-7 on Friday night at Auburndale High School.

Marathon ran for 409 yards and outgained the Apaches 494-246 overall.

Marathon improves to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the Marawood Conference, and Auburndale drops to 3-5 and 3-4 in the conference. The Apaches must win at Tomahawk (2-6, 2-5 Marawood) in their season finale next Friday to qualify for consideration for the WIAA playoffs.

Ryan Isaacson threw for 169 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown to Cale Jacoby for the Apaches’ lone score. Jacoby finished with four catches for 111 yards.

Mitchell Putnam ran for 214 yards and three touchdowns, quarterback Donavon Free added 69 yards on the ground and 85 more through the air, and Zach Anklam had two touchdown runs for the Raiders.
