MARSHFIELD — Main Street Marshfield is currently seeking applicants for its pop up shop incentive. The program offers short-term leases to entrepreneurs so they may try out their business concept.
“We had our first pop up shop last year. However, we are going at it a bit differently this time around,” said Main Street Marshfield Executive Director Angie Eloranta. “We don’t want to eliminate potential businesses by having set dates and times. This time around we are going to work one-on-one with each individual pop up shop applicant to make this a successful experience for them. That means finding them the right building, size, price, and location and helping them set hours that will work for both them and the downtown.
“They will be responsible for their short-term lease and maintaining consistent store hours. The benefit of doing the pop up is that they don’t have a long-term commitment of a lease if it doesn’t work out for them.”
Businesses get to decide their own hours but must maintain the hours consistently.
Main Street aides the fledgling business by providing signage as well as helping with promotions of the new business.
“All our vacant spaces downtown are options,” said Eloranta. “It’ll depend on what the pop up shop tenant needs and what they are able to budget for as far as monthly rent goes. Once we know the tenant’s needs, Main Street will reach out to the property owners to negotiate lease and rent.
“We will be accepting pop up shop applicants on an ongoing basis. We encourage interested people to contact us so we can discuss the program with them first before applying.”
