Clean Sweep program to properly dispose of old chemicals
For Hub City Times
MARSHFIELD — Wood County is hosting its annual Clean Sweep event on Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. Hazardous waste from businesses, households, farms, and retired farms can be brought in free of charge for safe, convenient, and legal disposal.
These chemicals can cause groundwater and surface water contamination or injury to persons if improperly stored or discarded.
Items accepted include unused chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, oil-based paints, cleaners, varnishes, wood sealers, auto and workshop chemicals, and other hazardous products like mercury thermometers and thermostats. Tires, latex paint, motor oil, antifreeze, fluorescent bulbs, and appliances will not be accepted.
Quantities are generally limited to 5 gallons or 50 pounds.
