Hinson has two goals, assist in road win

TOMAH — The Marshfield boys soccer team played for the third-straight day and was able to pull out a win Saturday, whipping Tomah 6-0 in a nonconference game at Veterans Park.

Alec Hinson scored twice, and Grant Urban, Ethan Hookstadt, Hunter McManus, and Quentin Buttke added goals for the Tigers, who improve to 3-4 after ending a two-game losing skid.

Marshfield outshot Tomah 30-2. Goalkeeper Matt Pahl made both saves for the Tigers.

Klaus Friedli had two assists for the Tigers.

“We had a good offensive output, but I’m really pleased with the defensive effort,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “The focus of the game was to do a better job defensively, marking up and pressuring the ball. We ended up allowing only one good scoring chance off a questionable free kick but otherwise shut Tomah down.”

Marshfield hosts Merrill on Tuesday for Youth Soccer Night at 5 p.m. at Griese Park before playing road games at D.C. Everest on Thursday and Ashwaubenon on Saturday.
