Tigers fall to 2-4

MARSHFIELD — Stevens Point scored twice in the first 19 minutes of the second half and held off Marshfield 5-4 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game Friday at Griese Park.

The game was a make-up as Tuesday’s originally scheduled match was postponed due to thunderstorms.

Stevens Point is now 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, and the Tigers drop to 2-4 and 1-2 in the Valley after losing for the second-straight day.

The two teams exchanged goals through the first 50 minutes. Luke McCann scored twice, and Collin Nikolai added a goal for Marshfield. McCann’s second one, 4:28 into the second half, tied the game at 3-3.

Stevens Point responded with two goals in a span of 5½ minutes to take the lead.

Alec Hinson scored with 15:41 remaining for the Tigers, but that was all they could muster.

“It was a good, competitive game tonight with back-and-forth scoring,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “The boys played hard coming off (the) late game last night.”

Marshfield will play a nonconference game at Tomah on Saturday.
