MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield volleyball team responded from a disappointing home tournament last weekend to outlast Stevens Point 3-2 in its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener Thursday night at Marshfield High School.
The Tigers, who went 2-3 at their home invitational on Saturday, won the fifth and deciding set 15-9.
“This was an awesome way to start our conference season,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “We played with so much heart, something I hope to continue to see.”
Stephanie Rhodes had 19 kills, 19 digs, and nine blocks, and setter Anna Ripp had 27 assists for the Marshfield offense. Jordyn Wilcott added eight kills, and Alexa Aumann had seven blocks and three service aces as well.
Maureen Cassidy had a team-high 20 digs, and Ripp added 18 on the defensive side for the Tigers.
Marshfield will play a nonconference match at Chippewa Falls on Tuesday.
