Marshfield girls tennis drops Valley opener to Wisconsin Rapids

Schultz posts Tigers’ lone win at No. 1 singles

MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield girls tennis team lost its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener on Thursday, falling 6-1 to Wisconsin Rapids at the Boson Tennis Complex.

Marshfield’s sole win came at No. 1 singles where Ashley Schultz beat Hannah Wangen 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Wisconsin Rapids won five of the other six matches in straight sets.

The Tigers will compete at the Brookfield Central Invitational on Friday and Saturday and return to WVC play Monday at Stevens Point.

Singles: 1. Ashley Schultz (M) def. Hannah Wangen 3-6, 6-3, 6-1; 2. Alex Zueger (WR) def. Hanah Gadke 6-3, 6-4; 3. Zoe Gilmaster (WR) def. Dara Stichert 4-6, 7-5, 6-4; 4. Hannah Nyman (WR) def. McKensey Koran 6-4, 7-6 (5).

Doubles: 1. Kaitlyn Hess-McKenzie Wentland (WR) def. Tylene Dierickx-Alexis Means 6-1, 6-1; 2. McCartney Sullivan-Mia Iwinski (WR) def. Olivia Devadas-Kacy Wesolowski 6-2, 6-2; 3. Ellie Schuerman-Paige Vruwink (WR) def. Brittany Weber-Makayla Wiegel 6-1, 6-3.

Records: Wisconsin Rapids 1-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference; Marshfield 0-1 WVC.
