Loren C. Virnig, 77, Marshfield, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 at his home.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug.  26, 2016 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1866. The visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Rembs Funeral Home.

Loren was born on Sept. 19, 1938 in Medford, to Adrian and Rose (Kellnhofer) Virnig and was a 1956 graduate of Granton High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the 32nd Division 128th Infantry from Oct. 1961 until his honorable discharge in Feb. 1965. He had owned his own gas and fuel business in Granton and later owned and operated his own semi. He then became employed in the maintenance department at St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 30 years, until his retirement.

Loren loved to tinker and took great pride in fixing things no matter how big or small.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and children, Ann Marie Virnig, Daniel (Carrie) Virnig, Constance Virnig and Renee (Greg) Virnig. He is also survived by a sister, Kathryn Reigel, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews and a special nephew and caretaker, Patrick. He is further survived by Poppy’s girls and grandchildren by heart.

He was predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers, Denis and Roman Virnig.

We wish to thank all the special angels that helped us through Loren’s care, including the oncology staff, palliative care, hospice, home hospice staff and neighbors and friends.

Condolences may be sent online to rembsfh.com.
