MARSHFIELD — According to a press release from the Marshfield Police Department, police found a 31-year-old man, identified as Andrew M. Payne, unresponsive at an apartment on the 400 block of West Cleveland Street at approximately 3 p.m. on July 14.

“Evidence at the scene suggests that (Payne) had died from an apparent overdose,” the release said.

An autopsy on the body was to be conducted on July 15, and the cause of and events prior to the death remain under investigation, according to the release.

“Mr. Payne had recently been released from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and was visiting friends and had not established residency in the city of Marshfield,” the release said.
