PLOVER — The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 American Legion senior baseball team was held to four hits and dropped a 4-1 decision to Plover in its Wisconsin Valley Legion League opener Tuesday at Memorial Field.
Plover scored once in the second inning and Marshfield tied it with a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Jared Klein that scored Mitch Susa.
The game remained 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth when Plover scored four times with the help of a Marshfield error and a pair of hits.
Trevor Schwecke suffered the loss for the Blue Devils (4-2), allowing the three runs — one earned — in two innings of relief.
Marshfield had the tying run at the plate with two outs in the top of the ninth, but Plover ended the game with a ground out.
Marshfield hosts Stevens Point at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.
