Marshfield Junior Legion baseball opens season with split at Plover

Blue Demons host D.C. Everest on Friday

PLOVER — The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Junior American Legion baseball team opened its 2016 season with a doubleheader split against Plover on Wednesday at Memorial Field.

Marshfield won the opener 12-10 and lost the second game 5-0.

Devin Toburen won the first game for the Blue Demons, striking out two and allowing just three hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Brandon Montalvo had two hits and four RBIs, and Hunter Korger had three hits and drove in two for Marshfield, which led 12-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning before the Black Sox scored seven to make it close.

No game statistics were provided for Game 2.

Marshfield hosts D.C. Everest for a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Hackman Field.
