MARSHFIELD — The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that one person is dead following an accident on State Highway 97, which occurred last night near County Highway C and the town of Day.
Lt. Jeff Stefonek said there were also nonfatal injuries as a result of the three-vehicle accident but did not know how many people were injured. He did say the injured were transported to Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Highway 97 was closed for several hours but was reopened at 8:04 p.m. last night, Stefonek said. It is not known if alcohol was a factor in the crash, but Stefonek said blood samples were taken from the individuals involved. Results from those samples could take three to four weeks to process, Stefonek said.
Stefonek said names of the individuals involved in the crash would not be released at least until about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday so the families could be notified.
