MARSHFIELD — Several area fire departments responded to the scene of a fire at Prince Corporation in the town of Marshfield on Thursday.
The fire was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m. today by Prince Corporation employees, said Hewitt Area Fire Department Chief Brian Hafermann. No injuries have been reported. As of about 3:30 p.m. today, Hafermann said firefighters were still working to extinguish the fire.
“We’ve got a confirmed grain bin fire,” Hafermann said. “The fire is inside the mill system, the piping, so we’re working on disassembling those pipes, getting water in to suppress the fire.”
Prince Corporation is a “wholesale distributor and manufacturer of agricultural, lawn and garden, pet, and wild bird products,” according to the company’s website. Hafermann said the fire “does not appear to be suspicious in any nature.”
The cause of the fire as of about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday was not known. While Hafermann said there is “definitely some damage to some of the mill,” a cost estimate of that damage is not yet known.
Hafermann confirmed that the fire was contained within the piping system of the grain bin.
Fire Departments from Arpin, Auburndale, Hewitt, Pittsville, Marshfield, Richfield, and Vesper responded to the scene.
