SPENCER — The Spencer softball team could not hold on to an early three-run lead and fell 6-3 to Athens in a nonconference game Monday at Spencer High School.
The Rockets (16-5) led 3-0 after two innings before Athens (17-4) scored six runs over the final four innings, including three in the fifth, to pull out the win.
Tiffany Meinders suffered the loss, allowing five runs in three innings of relief. She did have two of Spencer’s six hits. Lexi Baehr had a double and two RBIs as well for the Rockets.
Spencer will host Loyal/Granton in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Spencer High School.
