Tigers drop to 1-8-1 in WVC

MERRILL — The Marshfield girls soccer team dropped a Wisconsin Valley Conference game at Merrill on Thursday, losing 3-2.

Maddie Haessly scored both goals for the Tigers, who are now 5-15-1 overall and 1-8-1 in the WVC. Merrill is 2-13 and 1-9 in the conference.

Haessly scored both her goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, but Merrill matched, and Mae Litschauer scored at the 14:01 mark to put the Bluejays up 3-2. The game went scoreless for the final 76 minutes.

Andrea Carolfi had three saves in goal for the Tigers.

“We had some opportunities only to be turned away by Merrill each time,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “You have to give Merrill credit. They came out and played a heck of a game. They were hungry for a win and played a nice game.”

Marshfield finishes its regular-season schedule next week with games at D.C. Everest on Tuesday and Wausau East on Thursday.
