Marathon beats Stratford to clinch Marawood South baseball title
Tigers play at Assumption on Tuesday night

MARATHON — Marathon wrapped up the Marawood Conference South Division baseball title with a 9-1 win over Stratford on Monday at Marathon High School.
Stratford pitchers combined to walk nine batters, and Karter Underwood and Ryan Gassner homered for Marathon, which improves to 13-3 overall and 8-1 in the Marawood South. Stratford falls to 7-6 and 6-4 in the conference.
Stratford was held to three hits, a double by Mark Handrick and a home run and single from Dylan Peterson.
Gassner struck out 11 to earn the complete-game win for Marathon.
Stratford finishes its Marawood South schedule this week with games Tuesday at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption and Thursday at Northland Lutheran.
