Marshfield baseball wins two of three at home tournament

Brueggen tosses second-straight shutout for Tigers in win over Menomonie

MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield baseball team finished 2-1 at its home tournament on Friday and Saturday at Jack Hackman Field.

The Tigers beat Menomonie 1-0 and Holmen 12-2 before losing to Antigo 7-1 on Saturday.

Marshfield is now 9-10 this season.

Jake Brueggen tossed his second-consecutive shutout in the win over Menomonie. The junior left-hander struck out five and walked two, allowing just three hits.

Jared Klein had two hits, and Logan Jakobi drove in Trevor Schwecke with the game’s only run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Hunter Korger tossed a five-inning complete game to earn the win for Marshfield against Holmen. He also had two hits and three RBIs, and Jakobi also drove in three for the Tigers.

Marshfield had eight hits against Antigo but plated just the one run, that coming in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Paul Maguire had two hits and an RBI, and Schwecke went 3-for-4 for the Tigers.

Marshfield plays at D.C. Everest on Tuesday.
