Michalski finishes seventh for Tigers

WAUSAU — The Marshfield boys golf team finished fourth at the fourth leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday at a chilly and rainy Greenwood Hills Country Club. The meet was hosted by D.C. Everest.

The Tigers, who were one shot out of third in last Friday’s meet at Stevens Point, finished with a score of 337 Tuesday, two shots behind third-place Wausau West. Stevens Point won its fourth-straight leg of the seven-meet tournament with a score of 305.

Wausau East’s Matt Tuman was unfazed by the poor weather, shooting a six-under par 66 to win meet medalist honors and open up his overall lead in the conference standings over Max Bancker of Stevens Point. Bancker tied teammate Jake Hofmeister for second with a 75, and the two Panthers sit second and third in the overall standings behind Tuman.

Derek Michalski led Marshfield with a 79 as he tied for seventh. Michalski is in sixth in the overall standings.

Brendan Schneider tied for 10th with an 83, Grant Michaelis shot an 86, and Zach Hanson had an 89 for the Tigers. Joe Kirschnik added a 90 to round out the Marshfield squad.

The fifth leg of the tournament is Friday at Wausau Country Club. Marshfield hosts the sixth leg next Tuesday at RiverEdge Golf Course.
