Auburndale’s Sylviann Momont wins MVP at Edgar Track Invitational

Momont, Columbus Catholic’s Hutchison set new meet records

EDGAR — Auburndale senior Sylviann Momont broke a 28-year-old meet record and was named meet Most Valuable Player at the Dr. H.A. Schultz Track Invitational on Monday at Edgar High School.

Momont had a long jump of 17 feet 6 ½ inches, which broke the old meet record and also set a new Auburndale school record. Momont also won the triple jump (34 feet, ½ inch), was second in the 300-meter hurdles (51.11 seconds), and third in the 100 hurdles (17.23) for the Apaches, who finished second in the team standings behind Edgar.

Spencer was fourth, and Marshfield Columbus Catholic took fifth in the girls team standings.

Edgar also won the boys team title with Columbus Catholic fourth, Spencer sixth, and Auburndale eighth.

Columbus Catholic senior Alexandra Hutchison also set a new meet record in the girls 200, finishing in 25.97 seconds. In addition she won the 100 in 13.05 and the 400 in 1:00.22.

Also winning meet titles for the Dons were the girls 3,200 relay team of Morgan Albrecht, Hannah Grubofski, Becca Wirthlin, and Natalie Pospyhalla (10:53.91); Tim Gruenloh in the boys 1,600 (4:54.65); and Farid Torbey in the boys high jump (6-0).

Spencer had six first-place finishes. Nadia King won the girls 1,600 (5:45.01) and teamed with Liz Endreas, Sabrina Vircks, and Kaily Northup to win the 400 relay in 4:21.64. Vircks won the high jump (5-2), and Johanna Ellefson took first in the pole vault (9-6) for the Spencer girls.

Winning events for the Spencer boys were Jacob Miller in the pole vault (11-0) and the 400 thrower’s relay team of Logan Zschneritz, Max Weber, Nate Karau, and Alek Siegel (52.99).

Nick Steele had the Auburndale boys’ best finish, taking second in the long jump (19-10 ½).
