By Paul Lecker

Sports Reporter

AUBURNDALE — The Auburndale softball team won its third game in a row, rallying to beat Pittsville 14-13 in a wild Marawood Conference South Division contest Monday at Auburndale High School.

The Apaches trailed in four different innings — 1-0 after the top of the first, 4-3 in the fifth, 7-4 in the sixth, and 13-10 entering the bottom of the seventh — but were able to come back each time.

Pittsville scored six runs in the top of the seventh to lead 13-10 before Auburndale scored three times in the bottom of the inning to tie it, and the Apaches plated a run in the bottom of the eighth to win it.

Seven different Apaches had at least two hits. Hunter Hilber was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and five RBIs, and Sydney Schmutzer was 3-for-4 for the Apaaches.

Robyn Brokish earned the win for the Apaches with a scoreless innings of relief.

Auburndale (5-7-1 overall, 2-5 Marawood South) plays at Pittsville (6-7, 2-6 Marawood South) on Tuesday.
