SPENCER – The Spencer softball team went 1-1 at its home tournament on Saturday beating Nekoosa 15-0 and losing to Auburndale 5-4.
Spencer had its 11-game winning streak snapped with the loss to Auburndale and is now 11-3.
Spencer used 13 walks and eight hits to beat Nekoosa due to the 15-run rule after 3½ innings. Sadie Mercier had three hits, Courtney Buss and Mandie Schultz each had three RBIs, and Macie Weber had a home run for Spencer. Weber and Lexi Baehr each pitched two innings, giving up just one hit.
Auburndale scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning to edge Spencer. Hannah Bolder had three hits and drove in three runs, and Brooke Anderson and Mackenzie Raab each had two hits for the Apaches (3-7-1).
“Definitely have to give Auburndale credit,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “They outplayed us in every facet of the game and deserved to win. It was an eye opener for us and hopefully we can improve on some of the things we are not very good at.”
