WAUSAU — The Stratford and Wausau Newman Catholic baseball teams split a pair of games Monday at Brockmeyer Park.

Newman Catholic scored a run in the top of the 10th inning to win the finish of a suspended game from April 12 by a score of 8-7, and Stratford came back to beat the Cardinals 7-4 in the second game: the regularly scheduled Marawood Conference South Division matchup.

Stratford is now 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the Marawood South. Newman is 4-4 and also 4-3 in the conference. The two teams are tied for second place behind Marathon (5-0) in the conference standings.

In the game from April 12 that was completed Monday, Cole Hoffman suffered the loss, striking out four in three innings and allowing just one hit and one run. He added two hits and scored three times. Nick Stoflet finished 3-for-4, and Dakota Singer had two hits for the Tigers.

In Monday’s regularly scheduled game, the Tigers scored four times in the fourth inning to pull ahead and held on from there.

Hoffman earned the win, giving up two runs in four innings of relief. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and scored three times. Dylan Peterson also had three hits for Stratford.

Stratford plays a nonconference game at Edgar on Tuesday.
