Apaches win first game of season at Tigerton Invite on Saturday

By Paul Lecker

Sports Reporter

MARATHON — The Auburndale softball managed seven hits but could not get a run across in a 10-0 loss to Marathon in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday.

Sydney Schmutzer and Hannah Bolder each had two hits for the Apaches.

Marathon put the game away via the 10-run rule with a run in the sixth inning. Only three of the 10 runs allowed by Auburndale were earned.

The Apaches are now 1-5-1 overall and 0-3 in the Marawood South. Marathon improves to 4-2 and 3-0 in the conference.

Auburndale finished 1-0-1 at the Tigerton Invitational on Saturday, edging Iola-Scandinavia 4-3 before tying Tigerton 14-14 in nine innings before the game was called.

In the second game against Tigerton, the Apaches came back from a 13-3 deficit, scoring seven runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to tie it at 14-14. Robyn Brokish had two hits and four RBIs for Auburndale.

Alexis Soppe earned the win against Iola-Scandinavia, allowing three runs in five innings. Schmutzer had two doubles and two RBIs in the Apaches’ first win of the season.

Auburndale hosts Northland Lutheran on Thursday.
