Columbus Catholic girls third, boys fifth at Colby Track Invitational

Dons win five events

COLBY — Alexandra Hutchison won a pair of events, and Marshfield Columbus Catholic swept the high jump titles at the 2016 Colby Track Invitational on Tuesday at Colby High School.

The Dons finished third in the girls and fifth in the boys team standings as both team titles were won by Medford.

Hutchison won the 100 meters in 13.63 seconds, the 200 in 26.29 seconds, and finished second in the 400 in 1:02.37 for the Dons girls.

Kendra Baierl won the girls high jump with a leap of 4 feet 10 inches, and Farid Torbey took first for the boys with a jump of 5-8 for Columbus.

Also earning a first-place finish for Columbus Catholic was the boys 3,200 relay team of Jon Viegut, Leonard Steinert, Peyton Nystrom, and Tim Gruenloh, who won in 9:35.72.

Benny Frericks was second in the boys 3,200 (11:18.03), and Elijah Welsh took second in the boys shot put (40-8) and fourth in the discus (112-10) for Columbus.

The Dons will compete in the annual Wood County Meet on Monday at Pittsville High School.
