Marshfield boys tennis edges Wausau West in opener

Fait, Haessly win singles matches for Tigers

MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield boys tennis team kicked off its 2016 season with a 4-3 victory over Wausau West in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet Thursday at Boson Courts at Marshfield High School.
The Tigers won two of the three doubles matches in straight sets and took two singles matches to win the dual.
Evan Fait earned a three-set win over David Richetto at No. 2 singles, and Sam Haessly swept Jordan Kowalski at No. 4 singles for Marshfield.
Winning in doubles for the Tigers were the No. 2 team of Jared Draxler and Ayush Shukla, who did not lose a game in their match, and the No. 3 team of John Fay and Isaac Houk.
Marshfield will participate in the Eau Claire North Invitational on Saturday.

Doubles: 1. Ben Nichols-Ben Reich (WW) def. Tyler Droste-Justin Twardowski 6-1, 6-0; 2. Jared Draxler-Ayush Shukla (M) def. Tate Rauman-Feuchi Yang 6-0, 6-0; 3. John Fay-Isaac Houk (M) def. Luke Halverson-Ben Brown 6-2, 6-1.
Records: Wausau West 0-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference; Marshfield 1-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference.
