Stratford softball whips Newman Catholic in Marawood South opener

Tigers pound out 12 hits in win

STRATFORD — Brittany Bredemann had two hits and two RBIs to help push the Stratford softball team to a 7-2 victory over Wausau Newman Catholic in its Marawood Conference South Division opener Tuesday at Hilgemann Field.
Sammy Griesbach went 3-for-3, and Lorrie Luepke, Kaylee Geiger, and Sammy Kasier each added two hits for Stratford (1-1 overall).
Kiana Weiler earned the win for the Tigers, scattering seven hits in a complete-game effort. She had seven strikeouts and three walks.
Stratford trailed 2-0 after two innings before scoring six times in the bottom of the third and Weiler held Newman (1-1 overall and Marawood South) scoreless the rest of the way.
Stratford plays at Auburndale on Friday.
